September 21, 1936 - August 31, 2020
Edward (Eling) van der Zweep (born September 21, 1936 in the town of Roodhuis, Freisland, The Netherlands) has passed away on Monday, August 31 at the age of 83.
As a beloved father, Ed is survived by his children: Greg, Val, Connie, Patricia, Gary, Tracy, Wayne; their spouses, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by two brothers (Siebe and Ben), and four sisters (Betty, Vicky, Theresa and Nellie) and a large extended family throughout Canada, the U.S. and the Netherlands.
Ed was predeceased by his first wife Wilhelmina (nee van Wyk). In the 41years of their marriage and the raising of their family, Ed and Wilma farmed for 34 years in Balmoral, MB.
A full and rich life was shared by our parents. We are proud of the drive and hard work that made Ed an exceptional dairy farmer; earning awards for his herd. Many close friendships were made over the farm years; at his church community, his bowling league, and in travels by RV.
After Wilma's passing in 2004, Ed moved to Salmon Arm, BC where he met and married Gerda der Kinderen in 2006.
The thirteen years of Ed's marriage to Gerda were filled with travel, laughter and mutual loving support; until Gerda's recent passing in March 2020. Left to mourn Ed's passing are Gerda's daughters, Astrid and Monique and their families. They, as well as the many friends and neighbours enriched Dad's later years with kindness and real connection.
We love you Dad: "Ruste in Vrede."
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Funeral Mass will be by invitation only. When it is again possible, we hope to have a gathering to celebrate Ed's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or CancerCare.
