Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Edith Maria Mueller died peacefully in her sleep on October 29, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Kurt Willy Mueller, children Kurt (Adele) Mueller and Ursula (Terry) Lowrey, grandchildren David (Erin) and Christel, great-grandson Jaxson John, and in Germany by sister Charlotte Schulze, sister-in-law Helga Muller and nephew, nieces, and many cousins. She has been predeceased by her parents Walter and Maria Brinken, sister-in-law Margot Tietje, and granddaughter Anna-Marie Mueller Hartmier.
Edith was born in 1921 in Duisburg, Germany, where as a small child she met her future husband Kurt. They were married in 1943 during the tumultuous times of World War II. In search of a better life, Kurt immigrated to Edmonton Alberta in 1954 and Edith followed a year later with the two children.
She loved her new home in Canada and enthusiastically learned to camp, fish, and hunt moose. The Okanagan/Shuswap was a favorite holiday destination. In 1975 Edith and Kurt moved to Salmon Arm to retire and be near the grandchildren. Tirelessly devoted to family, Edith would sew, knit and crochet clothing for all. Her superlative cooking and baking recipes are family treasures. She had an amazing ability to remember all the birth dates of family friends and acquaintances. After retirement, Edith and Kurt enjoyed travelling the length and breadth of North America by camper.
Edith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will take place at the Shuswap Art Gallery, 70 Hudson St. on Friday November 11 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be made to Shuswap Hospice Society PO Box 967 Salmon Arm V1E 4P1.
