In loving memory ~
Today, we celebrate the vibrant and unforgettable life of Edra Genevieve Querin (Ahearn), a fiercely independent and wonderfully unique woman who left this world on her own terms on November 23rd 2024.
Edra was a character like no other—eccentric, outspoken, and unapologetically herself. You couldn't miss her zipping around Surrey or Salmon Arm on her trusty red scooter, unbothered by the traffic and with her signature flair. She was always impeccably styled, from her nearly-sensible shoes to her iconic hoop earrings (so big, we joked she could lasso a passerby with them). To her beloved grandchildren, Steven and Nicole, she was affectionately known as "Gramma Bling Bling."
Edra had a charm that drew people in. She had an uncanny ability to turn a casual conversation into a meaningful connection. Strangers quickly became friends, often beginning with a compliment about her hair. Her messy buns were legendary—deliberately tousled, perfected to look effortless, a masterpiece she mastered to an art form.
She had a knack for finding joy in life's little things, especially shopping for treasures she didn't necessarily need but couldn't resist. Trinkets, baubles, and odds-and-ends found their way into her curated collection, each with its own special place in her magazine-worthy home. But despite her love for beautiful things, Edra lived for life's simplest pleasures: a plate of fish and chips paired with a glass of white wine (and plenty of ice!) was her idea of bliss. Thanks mom for introducing us to your mom's famous Olive Cheese Balls that are always a hit at every pot luck events
Edra's true beauty, though, was in her boundless generosity and acceptance of others. She had a heart so big it could hold everyone she met. She gave freely—whether it was a dollar when she only had a dime or her time as a Welcome Wagon greeter, schoolyard volunteer, or Halloween costume creator for her kids. Her selflessness left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was also a creative force, a crafter who saw potential in everything. What others might discard, Edra would transform into something meaningful. Her artistic touch graced the homes of her family and friends, filling them with one-of-a-kind pieces that will now be cherished even more deeply.
Edra's final moments were spent surrounded by her loving children, Gord (Cristal), Michelle (Dave), and her cherished collection of Eiffel Towers—a testament to her love of beauty and whimsy.
As we remember Edra, let us honor her in the ways she'd love: indulge in a little Black Friday shopping for something frivolous, style your hair into a messy bun, or, most importantly, offer kindness to a stranger. That's the legacy she leaves us—a reminder to embrace life, treasure the little things, and give of ourselves freely.
