Edward Schmidt, known by the community as Ed, passed away in Piccadilly Care on Thursday evening, May 2, 2019 at the age of 92 years
Born in Baden, Russia, Ed immigrated to Canada in 1950, after working in the Yukon for a year he saved enough money to purchase a house in Vancouver and in 1952 brought his mother and sister over from Germany. They moved to Salmon Arm in 1960. For years he was the main caregiver for his beloved mother, Regina, and sister, Julie.
Ed was well known and respected for his loyal, faithful dedication to his family and the Church. His gift with carpentry, cabinet building and chip carving was also well known. He gained new life when he moved into the Shuswap Lodge, saw new friends and was able to walk around the area.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. with Father George LaGrange OMI officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Ida Cemetery, with light refreshments back in the Parish hall. Words of remembrance were shared by Brian Ayotte.
