It is with much sorrow we announce the passing of Elsie Grace Eacrett following a brave battle with Lung Cancer (NON SMOKER) on Tuesday, December 11th, 2007 in Shuswap Lake General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Elsie Grace Burton was born on July 8th, 1920 at Minnedosa, MB and received her education there, in Winnipeg and at UBC in Vancouver. She became a teacher and taught first near Dauphin, MB then at Junior High at Glenboro, MB. In 1946 she married Harold Moore of that town and in 1947 they moved to Ocean Falls, BC. Their daughter was born there in 1950 and there Elsie taught ESL for 10 years and then intermediate grades for 4 years. Unfortunately, Marilyn was killed in a car accident at Richmond, BC as her parents were relocating to Salmon Arm, BC in 1971.

Beginning in 1972, Elsie taught in the Shuswap School District until her early retirement in 1981, 1 year at Enderby and 8 years at South Canoe.

Besides her daughter, Elsie was predeceased by her husband Harold Moore, her brother George Burton and his wife Margaret of Winnipeg, Uncle Jamie Burton and wife Dorothy, Uncle Ernest Burton and Aunt Kate Manning all four of Salmon Arm as well as a brother-in-law, Harry Keith of Winnipeg, MB.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband Robert Eacrett whom she married in 1986 in Calgary, AB and by his family: Robert Jr. and his wife Patricia and family of AB, son Michael (Katrina) and family of the Toronto area, daughter Margaret Gibbs (Guy) and family of Calgary, also by his sister Edna Keith of Winnipeg, two nephews, Robert Burton (Eleanor) and family of St. Anne, MB and Oak Bluff, MB and by Kenneth (Maureen) Burton of Calgary.

Elsie was a Charter Member of the Salmon Arm Couples Lions Club and served diligently for only a few months short of 20 years with perfect attendance. She was also a life-long member of the Anglican Women’s Auxiliaries and a Life Member of the BC Retired Teachers’ Association.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at St. John’s Anglican Church With Rev. Ted Celiz officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ida Cemetery and a reception will be held back at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elsie’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 3451, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 4S2.
