Ethel was born in Vermillion, Alberta on April 11, 1923. She passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm on March 12, 2011.
Ethel was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Walter in 2001 and their youngest son, George, in 2010.
Ethel was very proud of serving her country during WWII. She was stationed overseas in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. She joined the Royal Canadian Legion as an ex-service woman and recently received her 60 year membership pin. Over the years, she attended many functions and developed many long-lasting friendships. She always looked forward to and enjoyed the companionship of her many ex-service women friends.
Mission was Ethel’s home for many years. She always loved the outdoors, working in her gardens, growing vegetables and lots of flowers. Ethel loved nature, animals, travelling, sewing, quilting and knitting. She was well known for her kind and caring ways; her door was always open to everyone. She had a great sense of humour and an award-winning smile.
Ethel became the matriarch of the family, being the last surviving member of her generation. She will be sadly missed her children, Harv (Jolayne), Sharon (Pat), Kenneth (Tina-Marie) and Cheryl (Bill); 13 grandchildren and very proud of having 25 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her faithful dog, “Kash”.
The family would like to thank the Shuswap Lake General Hospital and Dr. McCallum for their exceptional care of Ethel.
A Celebration of Life service for Ethel will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. with Jack Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatzic Cemetery, east of Mission at 2:00 pm Thursday afternoon. If friends so wish, donations in memory of Ethel in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fletcher’s Park Seniors’ Centre.
Arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm.
