February 23, 1928 - January 23, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Patricia Lee. Evelyn was born February 23, 1928 to Eveline and J. Ridley McEnaney in New Westminster, BC and passed peacefully at home with family at her side on January 23, 2022.
Growing up near Queen's Park, she spent many hours skating and playing tennis with friends. While attending a baseball game with a friend in White Rock, she met Gordon Lee. He offered to drive her home after the game and this led to a long and enduring love.
They were married August 16, 1952 and lived in White Rock until 1958 when Gordon decided to go to Chiropractic School, which required they move to Davenport, Iowa. During their time in Davenport Evelyn was a valued employee at John Deer and gave birth to their eldest son in 1961.
In 1962, after Gordon graduated, they bought a Chiropractic practice in Grande Prairie, AB where Evelyn ran the reception. They lived in Grande Prairie for 14 years and had two more children. They loved the friends they made in Grande Prairie but were both British Columbians at heart and so in 1976 the family of 5 moved to Salmon Arm to be closer to family.
Salmon Arm was home for 23 years. Evelyn devoted her time to her family and community by attending her children's sporting events, Rotary functions and for several years was an active member of the Anglican Women's Guild. She was an amazing baker and always had coffee and a treat for a friend or a basement full of kids.
When Gordon retired in 1999, they moved to Blind Bay and made many new friends in Alpen Paradies. The loss of their oldest son James in 2009 was an unimaginable devastation and Gordon passed shortly afterwards in 2011.
Evelyn will be remembered as a kind, loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother with great determination. She is survived by her children Maureen Lee, Fraser Lee (Cristina), her grandchildren Kieran Airey-Lee (Ariel), Maya Airey-Lee, Heather Smith, Karver Smith and sister- in-law Margaret Lee-Shold.
The Lee family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Community Home Support and Palliative Teams, who supported Evelyn to remain in her home, to Dr. C. Weiker for his kind and patient care, to the many neighbours who helped over the years, and especially to our neighbourhood angel, Laura Lee Linden, whose friendship and care meant the world to Evelyn and her family.
There will not be a service at Evelyn's request and in lieu of flowers please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
