August 29, 1939 - May 22, 2019
Frederick William Slater passed away suddenly in Shuswap Lake General Hospital on May 22, 2019 at the age of 79 years.
Born in Wauseon, Ohio, USA on August 28, 1939. Fred was a Funeral Director in Ontario for many years. Past President for 3 terms of Norwood Legion, Ontario, being given a Life Member status.
Following the death of his longtime friend Gary Reid in 2004 Fred came to Sicamous to assist the family, quickly fell in love with the area and moved here and became a good friend of Julia Reid and her family.
He considered Julia and Gary's family, his family, leaving behind Julia's daughter, Jessica Brooks and her loving family of five, of Alberta, with a special sparkle for granddaughter, Venessa. Julia passed away in Florida in 2015 with Fred being her caregiver for many months.
A Celebration of life service will be held from the Royal Canadian Legion, Sicamous, on Wednesday morning, June 5, 2019 at 11 am with Jack Bowers the celebrant. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley and District Cemetery, with a reception back at the Legion. Most honorable location for Fred's service, as he enjoyed the Legion, the Meat Draw on Saturday's, with many memories by members of his lucky streak at winning, only to return the draw to another member. His spirit will live on.
Online condolences may be sent to Fred's obituary at www.bowersfuneralservice.com.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm.
