We announce with great sadness, the passing of Friede Facklam at the age of 87 years. Friede died suddenly and peacefully at his home on Monday evening, December 15, 2008.

Friede was born and raised in Germany. He served during WWII for the German army.  Following the war, he joined the German Merchant Navy.  After a couple of trips to Canada, Friede decided that he wanted to make Canada his home.  In 1956, he and his first wife and son, Dieter, immigrated and settled in Ontario. Later, his son, Roy, arrived from Germany and joined his parents.  When Friede lost his first wife, he and his youngest son relocated to Kelowna, BC.

Friede leaves to mourn his wife, Liz and sons, Dieter in Furgus, ON and Roy in Kelowna. Friede will be missed by his family, the wonderful people he met as neighbours, church friends and all at the annual farmers’ market - his favourite place from April to October every Tuesday and Friday.  Friede would be seen going from booth to booth saying “hello” and linger to talk if they had the time.

God bless you all for being his friend.

A memorial service will be held in January, 2009, the place and date to be announced.
