Aug 27, 1970 - Mar 23, 2018
In the early morning hours of March 23rd, after struggling for nearly two years to recover from a major brain injury, Gary Owen Baker took his final breath in the loving company of his wife and daughters.

Gary was born in Fort St. John, B.C. on August 27, 1970, the middle child of five. He spent his high school years in Papua New Guinea, before returning to the Okanagan where he eventually married and raised a family.

Gary was known throughout the community as an avid soccer player and coach, a dedicated firefighter, a skilled timber-framer and gifted mentor/teacher, but his greatest joy was his family. Gary is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Erica Baker, and their four daughters, Alea, Erin, Bree and Keira; his parents, Owen and Audrey; and his siblings Mark Baker, Annette Doan, and Jennifer Schneider.

A memorial service in Gary's memory will be held Saturday, May 12th at 3:30 pm at the Gathering Place (Broadview EFree Church) in Salmon Arm. Since Gary was an amazing story teller, Erica hopes that stories and memories will be shared with Gary's family and community at the service or sent to gary.baker.stories@gmail.com.

In addition, a scholarship for mature students pursuing further education in sciences has been set up at Okanagan College in Gary's name. Feel free to contact the College if you would like to contribute to the scholarship.
