It is regret we announce the passing of Geoffrey Howard Scatchard, age 96, on the morning of January 9, 2008. Geoffrey was the son of Chase pioneer Dr. Walter and Ada Scatchard, who emigrated to Chase from England with their children, Kemble, Gerald (Jack), Mowbray and Mildred. An older son Charles remained in England.

Geoffrey the youngest child was born in Chase in 1911 and lived there until joining the Imperial Bank of Commerce at age 18. His work took him to Alberta where he lived until the outbreak of The Second World War. He served his country overseas before returning in 1945.

He married Kate Waters and had two children Arlie and Kemmy. He lived in Alberta and Saskatchewan for his entire career with the bank before retiring in Chase in 1977. He was predeceased by his wife Kate in 1987 and wife Kay Maclean in 1997. He is survived by his loving wife Reta (Eldstrom) with whom he shared the sunsets of their lives.

He is also survived by daughter Arlie (Gordon) Fischbach; son, Kem (Jan) Scatchard and grandchildren: Murray, Mark (Kim), Tanya (Bernie), David (Brooke), Heather, Douglas, and great granddaughter Olivia.

Geoff will be remembered as an avid golfer, bowler, musician, curler, artist and a great sportsman. He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 12, 2008, 2:00 p.m. from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 107, Chase, BC. Memorial donations in Geoffrey’s name may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion #107, Box 122, Chase, BC, V0E 1M0.
