Gerrit passed away into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on May 26, 2011 at the age of 83. He was born in Rotterdam, Holland in 1928. He emigrated to Canada in 1952 where he married Erna in 1955.
Gerrit worked for the imperial oil refinery in Calgary and then as utility supervisor for the Strathcona refinery in Edmonton for a total of 26 years. For the last 24 years he enjoyed his retirement in Salmon Arm.
Gerrit will be greatly missed by his wife Erna of 55 years, son Alexander (Debbie) Stadig and daughter Astrid (Dave) Welch, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His sons Rudy and Bernie as well as three brothers and two sisters have gone before him.
We are comforted with the assurance that to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, Salmon Arm on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 2pm with Pastor Dave Penner officiating.
