Gisela Klara Bodnar

July 12, 2019

March 23, 1923 - July 12, 2019
Gisela Klara Bodnar passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019 at Mount Ida Mews in Salmon Arm at the age of 96. Gisela was predeceased by her son, George Bodnar. She is survived by her brother Eckbert Goldmann, of Germany.
She was born in Berlin in 1923. Gisela worked as a nurse's aide during WWII then immigrated to Canada in 1950 with her family.
She was a strong, independent and exceedingly competent person who enjoyed an adventurous life and was an inspiration to others. She worked as an independent photographer, home economics teacher and operated the Silver Creek Guest Ranch.
Of her passions in life, animals, especially dogs and horses, and the great outdoors, stand out. Many a mountain trail ride on horseback took place in Alberta and BC. She was a member of the Alpine Club striving to climb ever higher for the best views.
Not one to shy away from adventure or a challenge, she learned to ride a motorcycle at the age of 75 and is remembered by a close friend for the speed with which she rode. She will also be remembered fondly as an avid gardener, keen bridge and cribbage competitor and winner of many scrabble games. Living close to the Senior's Activity Centre, it became like a second home to her and this was where she enjoyed her weekday lunches.
Gisela lived her life in gratitude and is remembered to have said: "Salmon Arm was the best place in the world to live. I never wanted to leave as we have everything here, mountains, rivers, trees, beauty."
Respecting Gisela's wishes, there will be no formal funeral.
