Guy passed away suddenly January 23rd, 2011 as a result of a tragic car accident near Fort McMurray, AB. Guy was born November 15th, 1955 in Unity, SK. He is predeceased by his parents Ken Nelson and Dolly Patterson; mother-in-law Patricia Kocourek. He is survived by his loving wife Judy Kocourek; sons Jesse and Troy; step-children Kelsey and Jordan Stroeder; brothers Eric and Vaughn Nelson; father-in-law Jim (Lil) Kocourek; brother-in-law Brad (Sue) Kocourek; sisters-in-law Janine Nichols (Reg) and Dawn (Dave) Stevenson; and many nieces and nephews. Guy was raised in Humboldt, SK and in 1972 the family moved to Grande Cache where he started his mining career. Guy was employed with Smokey River Coal until 1997 when they moved to Edson at which time he became employed by Suncor in Fort McMurray. Three years ago they moved back to Saskatoon to build their retirement home and to be close to family and friends. Guy enjoyed keeping in touch with friends from his past, as well as making new friends. He enjoyed swimming, going to the movies, and was an avid sports fan. Guy enjoyed attending family functions and visiting with everyone, young and old. He enjoyed classic cars, especially Volkswagens. Guy leaves to mourn many friends and family members including his Honorary Pallbearers Doug Bowman, Ron Fredricks, Dan Bernard, Ron Wright, and Dave Hodgson. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 29th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saskatoon, SK. Arrangements entrusted to HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME, Saskatoon, SK (306) 477-4400.
