Harold Siegfried Kurtz passed away at the Good Samaritan Hillside Village in Salmon Arm, B.C. on August 28, 2008 at the age of 88 years.

Born in Tribune, Saskatchewan on February 1, 1920 he lived there until 1935 when the family moved to east-central Saskatchewan to the Melfort area and then three years later to Brooksby, SK. where they settled on the farm. In 1944 he met and married Helen Thompson and they settled on their own place next to the original farmstead.

Harold was a farmer all his life primarily growing wheat, barley, and oats and in later years canola and flax along with some livestock. He loved farming and was proud of his accomplishments and always looked forward to getting on the land. After retirement in 1979 Harold and Helen moved to Star City, SK and eventually to Salmon Arm, B.C.

Harold was an active member of the community, involved in 4-H, curling in Brooksby, Star City, and Salmon Arm, an avid golfer, and a long and active honourary member of the Elks Lodge. He will be remembered for his hard work, integrity, love of dancing and having a good time, of camping and fishing, that dry and subtle humor, and his unconditional love of friends, family, kids, grand-kids, and of life. And oh yes, if there was a card game on the go, he was sure to be part of it.

Harold is survived by his wife Helen, sisters Louise Huber of Saskatoon, SK, Elsie Archer of Windsor, ON, daughter Marilyn of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, and grandsons Darcy and Scott and great-grandson Soren of Calgary; son Byril and Brenda of Salmon Arm, B.C., grandson Jayson and Shelly and great-grandkids Sarah and Matt of Prince George, B.C.; granddaughter Jennifer and Tom Doull of Surrey, B.C.; and son Gil and Norene of Merritt, B.C. and grandkids Amber of North Vancouver, B.C., and Austin of Kamloops, B.C.

Respecting his wishes there will be no memorial service except for a family gathering in Salmon Arm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations you wish to make be made to the charity of your choice.
