In Loving Memory ~ Hiltje Numan (nee Algra) passed away peacefully on May 6, 2020 at the age of 94 years.
Hilly was born in Tijnje, Friesland, the Netherlands, the second child of five born to Douwe and Jantje Algra. Her Christian faith was the most important thing in her life.
She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend who provided a loving home for her family and it was a place where guests were always welcome. She lived through World War II as a teenager and served as a courier for the Dutch underground. After the war she drove supply trucks for the Dutch army. On February 7, 1952 she married Siebe Jan Numan. Soon after, they immigrated to Vancouver, BC, Canada where they were blessed with 6 children. They were married for 68 years.
Hilly is survived by her husband and their children Witte (Wilma), Dewey (Norma), Arthur (Diane), Suzanne (Tom), and Tina. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Margaret (Bill), Siebe (Rosie), Hilda (Travis), Suzanne (Mike), David (Kendra), Joel, Andrea (Andriy), Vanessa, Angela (Peter), Natasha, Jason (Miranda), Chris, Michael, Andrzej, and Nasz and 13 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son of 8 months, Johnny (1964).
Funeral services were held on May 8 at the Shuswap Memorial Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Hillside Village (Cottage 2) for the amazing care given to her for the last eight years.
