Howard Kallio

Howard Laurence Kallio passed away peacefully in his home at Salmon Arm, BC in the early hours of Sunday morning, February 20, 2011 at the age of 65 years.

A celebration of life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Tuesday morning, March 1st at 11 a.m. with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant. A reception will follow at the Mountainside room at Bowers, allowing the family and friends time to continue sharing memories.

Cremation with interment to follow in the family plot in Mt. Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm.

Born in Vancouver, BC on December 20, 1945, Howard was an avid Boy Cub and Boy Scout leader, as well a faithful Big Brother in Vancouver for many years. Following the passing of his grandfather he moved to Salmon Arm to look after his grandmother. He continued his support of assisting wayward boys. He is well remembered for his love of cats and dogs, as well following the local news, having strong opinions of what was going on in the community. He was proud to be part of the pioneers of Salmon Arm, as his grandmother arrived in 1912 and grandfather in 1916.

Predeceased by his mother, Miriam M.M. Twyman in 1959, his grandfather, Charlie Kallio in 1981, his grandmother, Amanda Kallio in 1988, as well numerous other family members in the Shuswap.

Howard was faithfully supported by many volunteers in the community as well the Community Care Nurses that remained professional in a difficult situation. This is greatly appreciated and respected by his family and neighbors.
