Istvan (Steve) Meggyesi passed away peacefully at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital on February 8, 2008 at 1 a.m. Steve was born August 14, 1925 in Kiskunhalas, Hungary. Steve became a Canadian citizen in 1957. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Kathreen Meggyesi, daughters Katherine Rosamond (Tom), Sandra Meggyesi, Maureen Kube (Dan), Susan Sewell and Crystal Comeau (John), foster daughter Chelsea Reeves, six granddaughters and two grandsons. Steve will also be missed by numerous life-long friends.
Steve spent over 40 years as a member of The International Union of Operating Engineers. Steve has been a resident of Tappen for 15 years, where he’s enjoyed the companionship of his friends and neighbours in the community, having spent most of his previous years as a heavy duty mechanic. Steve worked hard all his life, and has a work ethic that was beyond belief. Steve is also missed by his canine buddy Tucker. Steve loved Bingo, fishing and most of all his bees. Known to several people as “The Bee Man,” Steve was always one to put family and friends first. A never-ending thank-you to the employers and co-workers of Imperial paving, who’s friendship and support continues well beyond his retirement. A special thank-you to the staff and aids at Harmony Haven for enriching Steve’s quality of life in his last years. I would also like to extend a deeply felt thank-you to all who have stepped forward to help our family during our time of bereavement.
