Jean Alicia Sarah Walker (nee Sellers) passed away peacefully in Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at the age of 88.

Born in Fort William, Ontario, on March 28th, 1920; attended Rupert’s Landing College in Winnipeg; enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as a stenographer at Port Arthur, Ontario, June 30th, 1942 and went overseas from September 1944 until the end of WWII. After the war, Jean moved to Vancouver where she worked for a lawyer, Bradshaw. She met Frayne Percy Walker and they were married August 26th, 1950. They lived and loved on a small five acre farm in Burnaby, BC.

In the summer of 1970 they moved to the Shuswap with their two young children to start a new life. She worked in various jobs but her favourite job was working for the Indian Health and Welfare office in Salmon Arm.

Predeceased by her husband, Frayne Percy Walker in 1978 and her daughter Gail Ohr, Jean leaves her four children; Grant (Johanna) Walker of Kingston, Ontario, Rita Mount of Salmon Arm, Fran (Ray) Routley of Salmon Arm; Frayne Walker (Toni-Marie) of Maple Ridge, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the care, attention and love provided by Bastion Place and the loving support of mom’s friends. Thank you!

A celebration of life service and reception will be held at Fischer’s Funeral Services on Saturday afternoon, May 31st at 1:00 p.m. with Padre Norm Russell officiating. Full Legion Honours will be presented by Branch #62 Colour Guard. If so desired, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 141 Hudson Ave. NW, Salmon Arm, V1E 1W3.
