On Sunday, March 16, 2008 Mrs. Jeltje Jessie Kooistra of Chase (formerly of Sorrento) passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 99 years. She was the last of her generation. Jessie was predeceased in 2002 by her husband John, of 70 years, her two brothers and sister, her daughter in law Ann of Westwold and great grandson Cory of Kamloops.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three children Henry (Carol) of Westwold, Tim (Phyllis) of Sorrento and Susan (Harry) Bryant of Mission; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. Jessie is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Holland who always kept in touch with and remembered their Tanta Jeltje.
She was born November 15, 1908 in Holland. Jessie married John on July 23, 1932 and together they came to Canada in 1948 settling in Diamond City, Alberta. Moving to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta for a year or two and then to Mission, B.C. in 1953, where they dairy farmed. In 1971 they moved to the quiet retired life of Sorrento. In 2002, she moved to the Sorrento Lions Manor where wonderful friendships grew, especially with Myrtle, Kurt, Russ and others. The last two years were spent at Parkside Estates in Chase, where she received wonderful loving care.
John and Jessie spent many years as “snow birds” traveling to Yuma, Arizona each winter to their second home, Jessie said this was her favorite place to be. During the spring and summer they would spend there time fishing together at many local lakes. Jessie enjoyed playing cards, bingo and carpet bowling, and she knitted the best socks!
Her family was her life and she loved to spend time with them over a cup of tea and game of crib.
As were her wishes, no formal service will be held. In the spring her family will gather and inter her & John’s cremated remains together for all time.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, Kamloops, telephone 250 374-1454.
