April 17, 1974 - September 15, 2019
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Jodie Wentworth. She passed away at her home in Salmon Arm, Sunday morning, September 15, 2019 of unknown medical causes.
Jodie was born in Salmon Arm April 17, 1974 to the proud parents, Joan and Gordon Dettelbach. She joined her brother Kevan and her sister Krista to provide endless love and entertainment to the family.
Jodie was an accomplished Highland dancer, winning many awards and also earning her instructors certificate. She played in the school band and especially loved the trip to China.
Jodie was an outstanding student and took all of her public schooling in Salmon Arm before attending UBC to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree. She then went on to Okanagan College in Kelowna to complete the UBC teachers training program. Her final step was to earn her Masters of Education through Gonzaga University's Distant Education Program. During Jodie's years of study, she also worked at the Salmar Theater and Shuswap Optometric Center where she met and made many lasting friends.
Teaching in the Salmon Arm School District for the past 20 years included MV Beattie, Bastion, South Broadview and finally Hillcrest. Jodie has a gentle, kind, positive way about her that certainly touched the lives of all her colleagues, students, parents and friends.
She married Neil Wentworth of Kelowna, July 31, 1999 and a few years later a son Draven was born. A devoted caring mother, she spent all her spare time providing Draven with every opportunity to learn and have fun. Although Jodie and Neil went their separate ways, they continued to share in the parenting of Draven.
Predeceasing Jodie were her mother, Joan Dettelbach, her grandparents, Eugene and Josephine Dettelbach and Al and Lois Philips.
Jodie will be forever remembered by her son, Draven, father Gordon (Jan), brother Kevan (Narcena), sister Krista (Troy), niece, Rachel, nephew, Kieran, aunt, Doreen (Harvey) and many cousins. She will also be remembered by Draven's father, Neil (Joanna), his parents, Hedy and Dale, his brothers and their families as well as many other friends and students.
