Oldest son of Phillip and Rose Rathwell, born in Fairview, Alberta on May 12, 1932, “Big” John passed away in Kamloops Hospice on December 1, 2010 at age 78.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 Years, Gail; his children: Arlana and sons Wes and Kyle, Red Deer, Alberta; John B (Monna) and children Jonathan, Brianna, and Jordan of Innisfail, Alberta; JC (Barb) and son Cash of Kelowna, BC.

He is also survived by other family members: Mel (Jeannine), Ron, Don, Howard, Paul, Myrna, Audrey, Marilyn, Gaila and their families. He will be remembered by many people who are considered as part of our extended family.

He was predeceased by siblings; Beatrice, Anne and Arthur.

John was noted for success in various endeavours including oilfield drilling and engineering (including time in California and Turkey); Ultralight construction and school; family-operated performance & racing quarter horses; he retired to the Sorrento area in 1985 where he was able to pursue his love of quadding and fishing (both local lakes and offshore; Vancouver to Mexico).

A Private Family Service will be held in December 2010.
