It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Herbert (Herb) Rist, September 12, 2010 at the age of 93 years. He was the beloved father of son Karl. He will be missed but dearly remembered by the many lives he touched. At an early age he moved with his parents from Waldeck, SK to Burnaby, BC. Later he moved to Armstrong, BC.

He joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and served with the Princess Patricia Light Infantry 1939 – 1945. This took him to various countries including North Africa. He was a member of the Chase Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #107.

After the war years, Herb was employed with the Adam’s Lake Lumber Co., as a faller and later on as a cut-off sawyer in the debarking area. Herb really enjoyed his work at the mill, often reminiscing of the many incidences of his Logging experiences.

Herb moved to Sorrento in 1957 with his wife Doris, son Karl and mother Millie. He built his house where he still resided until his passing.

He served on the Sorrento Water Board for a number of years and also donated a sizable piece of land for the local water storage system.

Herb loved to take his son Karl fishing. Together they fished most of the local lakes around Salmon Arm, Chase and Kamloops areas.

Herb always enjoyed the OAPO Hall in Sorrento, taking part in pool tournaments and playing crib.

Herb was predeceased by his wife Doris and his parents Charles and Millie Rist.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the OAPO Hall, Sorrento. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Herb’s name may be made to the OAPO Hall in Sorrento.
