In Loving Memory ~

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of my husband, John Witte, on January 7, 2025, at the age of 86.

He leaves behind his loving spouse Gwynneth of 54 years, son Dirk (Luanne), grandson Nathan, sister Anneliese (Stan), sister-in-law Marolyn, as well as many extended family. John was predeceased by brother George and granddaughter Savannah.

John was born in Germany and came to Canada at the age of 14. He served in the Canadian Army, where he also became the light-middle weight Canadian boxing champion in 1959.

John joined the Calgary Police Service in 1962 and worked in the K-9 Section, Patrol, CID, GIS, the Robbery Unit, retiring in 1985 as a detective. He was known as an honorable, fair, devoted policeman, with a strong work ethic, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Upon retirement, John and Gwynneth moved to the Grande Prairie area where he took up farming and was able to enjoy his love of animals, until moving to Salmon Arm in 2006.

John always had a positive outlook and saw the best in everyone he met. He was known for his many stories, kind nature, and warm smile that he shared with everyone.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including his immediate family as well as his many nieces and nephews, who all dearly loved their Uncle.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
