Josef passed away peacefully, at his home on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the age of 93.  Joe was born in Wertherbruch, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956.  He settled in Ocean Falls, BC, where he worked in the mill for Crown Zellerbach.  When the mill shut down in 1973, Joe moved to Kitimat where he worked for Eurocan.  He retired in 1980 and moved to Salmon Arm to live with his son Rudi, daughter-in-law Paula and their young, growing family.  Over the years of his retirement, Joe loved to take long, daily walks, fish, garden, and take yearly vacations back to Germany to visit his family.  As time passed, he took a keen interest in his growing family, granddaughters Ava and Heidi and grandson Andrew.  In the last few years he was delighted to greet the next generation:  two great-granddaughters, Cassia and Camille.  He could always be counted on to supply a cookie, a banana, or a perfectly peeled apple when the kids came to visit and even at 93 he kicked the soccer ball around with Cassia.  Joe was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters and is survived by one sister, Klara of Krefeld, Germany.  He will be missed by his son, Rudi (Paula), granddaughter Ava Franklin(Jayme) of Salmon Arm, Heidi Hynes (Ian) of Victoria, and grandson Andrew in Kelowna.
