Joseph (Joey) Leland Atkinson died suddenly in a tragic accident near Clearwater, BC in the early hours of Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the age of 22 years.

The funeral service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Friday afternoon, December 21st at 1:00 p.m. with Jack Bowers officiating. Tributes were shared by family and friends, including a visual presentation of Joey’s active life. Cremation with interment to follow at a later date in Mt. Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm.

Born in Chilliwack, BC on July 28, 1985, Joey was raised in Chilliwack, then Campbell River before moving to Salmon Arm in 1998. He is well remembered for his love of life, abundance of energy, infectious smile and enjoyment of his friends and family. Joey worked alongside his father in the logging industry where he was well respected for his skills and work ethic.

Joey leaves his loving family, mother, Susan (Laurie Koebel) of Kelowna; father and close friend, Bryan (Arlene Goldie) Atkinson of Salmon Arm; sister, Melissa of Kamloops, brother, Jamie of Campbell River and step-sister, Samantha of Salmon Arm; grandmother Freda Atkinson of Chilliwack; grandfather, Robert Hicks of Canim Lake; nephews, Brayden and Rylee; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and the love of his life, Jessica Turner attending university in Kamloops.
