Joseph Peter Furiak peacefully passed to glory on August 13, 2010. Joe was born in Kreva, Slovakia on November 06, 1922. His family moved to Kaslo, BC when he was 9 years old, this is where he lived until graduating from high school. His first job was as a line-man for the C.P.R, followed by 4 years in the Canadian Army as Sergeant in the quarters, master stores and then as office manger for military police. Upon discharge from the army Joe took up logging and eventually Joe and his brother Louis, formed their own company, logging in many parts of British Columbia. Joe and Louis trapped during logging’s off season.

Joe was predeceased by his brother Louis on November 11, 1987

Joe will be greatly missed by his wife Betty (whom he married in 2002) and by her children and grand-children who will miss”Poppa Joe”, by his brothers; John (Fran), Joe (Victoria), nieces and nephews Kevin (Sarah), Lisa and Doug and all his faithful and supportive friends.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. McDonald and Dr. Bratty whose care of Joe was exceptional, to the staff at Oakside Manor who ministered so lovingly to Joe during his short stay there, his community care nurse Sandra Dodd, for her supportive and loving care together with the all community care staff who gave of their time and expertise; A special thank you to his friend Jac who so faithfully visited and encouraged Joe; Pastor Terry (Grindrod Gospel Church) and all his other friends who so faithfully ministered to Joe during his last days.

Joe will be remembered for his quiet courage, his love of nature and his deep trust in the love of his Heavenly Father and for his great stories of life in the woods.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Saturday September 11, 2010 at 3pm from the Grindrod Gospel Church with a supper to follow.

Donations in Lieu of flowers may be sent to the Grindrod Gospel Church building fund, Grindrod, BC.
