Joyce Belle Grayston passed away at Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, BC on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the age of 89 years.

Joyce was born in Silver Creek, BC on June 8, 1921. She was raised in Salmon Arm and after graduating from Salmon Arm High School, she moved to Kamloops for three years to take nurses’ training. She moved back to Salmon Arm and worked in the hospital and married Eric on August 6, 1944. They lived in Enderby and Sicamous and, in 1948, moved to Vancouver. In 1955 Joyce came down with polio and was confined to a wheelchair. Being a person who was accepting of her disability and with her calm, patient spirit, she always worked on improving and accomplished receiving her drivers license in 1967. Joyce was very family oriented and involved in her church.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Eric; two daughters, Lynne Dickson of Langley and Pam Lang of Aldergrove; four grandchildren, Michelle Dickson, Jennifer (Abe) Thomas, Jason (Stephanie) Shellborn and Joshua Shellborn; five great grandchildren, James, Madison, Natasha, Justin and Kennedy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Louise Wright and brothers, Laurie and Hugh.

A funeral service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm on Saturday, June 4th at 2:00 pm with Reverend Brian Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm.
