June 2, 1928 - May 2, 2020
In loving memory of our dear mother, grandmother, aunt, sister in-law and friend. June Harper died peacefully on May 02 2020 at home, at Lakeside Manor, Salmon Arm.
Born on June 02 1928 in the Vernon Hospital to her parents, Caroline Emily Wood (nee Wood) and Bernard "Barney" Perciple Wood. June had 2 brothers, Arthur Russell Wood and Andrew Russell Wood, both deceased at a young age.
The family homesteaded on a section of land in Ewing's Landing on the Westside of Vernon BC from 1910 - 1943.
In 1944 they moved to Powell River where June lived for many years. In 1949 June married William Robert (Bob) Harper.
After several moves, they headed back to the Sunshine Coast, Frances Peninsula in Pender Harbor, BC. where they ran a marina and store together with their 2 children.
June loved horses. As a child she eagerly rode Flossy to her one room schoolhouse. June had several jobs in her life. Working after school at the Soda Fountain in Powell River, at the marina/store in Pender Harbour and later worked in Buckerfield's in Powell River. June taught Mixology at BCIT and worked in several bars in White Rock. She loved those jobs. Everyone was happy!
Many years later, June met Fred Mueller. While living in Tsawwassen she managed the books for Fred at the Husky Station. They built their dream log home at Gardom Lake, BC and enjoyed their life fishing, gardening and entertaining the neighbors down at the fire pit. All the grandchildren have fond memories of spending summers at the Lake! Their retirement at Gardom Lake was a very joyful time in her life.
For a short time, June resided in Nanaimo, BC but after 5 years returned to the Shuswap. For the past 3 and a half years June lived at Lakeside Manor where she continued her life to the fullest.
Besides reading, June loved to play bridge at the Seniors Centre on 5th Street and Wednesdays at the Manor. She volunteered at the Seniors Centre in the kitchen and at the Monday Morning Market held at Downtown Askews. For many years she was involved with TOPS in Nanaimo and Salmon Arm. The compassion and love for her Mini-Pin dogs was very important to June.
June leaves behind her daughter Barbara Harper, son in-law Brian, son Don Harper and partner Cheryl, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and brother in-law Earl Logan.
A very special thank you to her niece Heidi Schelb Fackler and husband Reg, who have been a part of June's life for many years, and a large part of June's final journey.
Thank you to Lakeside Manor Residential Care, Community Services, Palliative Care, PharmaSave, Lakeside Medical Supplies, and Fischer's Funeral Home Salmon Arm, many friends and family for their care during this difficult time. The support has been amazing.
In time of pandemic crisis, the family wishes to postpone a Celebration of Life until a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a Horse Refuge of your choice or the Salmon Arm SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
June's sense of humor, hospitality and that twinkle in her eyes will be missed but never forgotten.
Thank you...the Family
