LOUISE MARIE “COOKIE” (LAAS) PHILLIPS

Born June 5, 1958;

Passed Away February 18, 2011Taken from us far too soon, and missed more than the world itself.”

Mom came to Salmon Arm as a newborn, and it was there she would spend her early days growing up and going to school, eventually graduating in 1976. Shortly thereafter, she would move to Winnipeg to pursue her artistic talents working as a silk screener. After a short while, she moved to Vancouver where the job prospects of the banking industry would provide a stable foundation. With a quick stopover in Salmon Arm again, Mom eventually found herself in Calgary where she began the joyous adventure of starting a family. With young children to care for, she left the banking industry and was able to focus on her artistic talents once again, forming her own craft company “Frames and Fancies by Louise.” By the time her children were old enough to “leave the nest,” Mom was ready to move home to Salmon Arm to be closer to family. While there, she greatly enjoyed working with her friends at the newspaper. Mom never gave up her artistic vision and would work tirelessly making and creating an assortment of things for just about anyone she knew.

Mom is survived by her son Eli and daughter Casey. Her sister Linda (Terry) and brothers Ted (Lorna), Laurie (Candis), and Chris (Gina), as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends scattered across Canada and the world. Mom is predeceased by her father Alex and mother Louise.

A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Fifth Avenue Seniors Activity Centre (170 5th Ave. SE) in Salmon Arm on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Surrey. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, contributions can be made in memory of Louise to the Red Cross Society.
