February 7, 1933 - October 15, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mae Cox on October 15, 2019.
Mae, and her twin sister Rae, were born February 7, 1933 on the family farm in Fairview, Alberta. Mae spent her early years in Alberta and moved to Salmon Arm as a young teen. Once married, Mae and Harold moved to Celista, and then back to Salmon Arm where she resided until her recent passing.
Family played a prominent role in Mae's activities, thoughts and prayers. Mae is predeceased by her husband (Harold) and two infant grandchildren (Jeffrey and Andrew).
She is survived by her six children: Bev (and Dan) Gienger, Peter (and Phatsa) Cox, Evelyn Cox, James Cox, Mark (and Gloria) Cox, and Elaine (and Kelly) Bury; Nine grandchildren, Matthew (and Kari) Gienger, Jodi (and Brian) Ekk, Ian and Ryan Rideout, Carson, Jordan, and Mitchell Bury, and Caleb and Elias Cox; and four great-grandchildren, Ella and Hannah Gienger, and David and Heidi Ekk.
Mae liked helping people and had great compassion for children and those marginalized. This was demonstrated by Mae (and Harold) serving as foster parents. Her faith was real and deep and she was active in and loved her church. Mae loved to knit and crochet and many people have benefitted in the form of blankets, afghans, socks, sweaters, dish clothes, et cetera. Mae loved to collect and at one time had over 500 coal oil lamps. She had a green thumb and nursed many plants back to health. Mae was also the family's self-appointed photographer and historian. Mae was shaped by her upbringing on the farm and loved animals, the thrift store and a good bargain.
We would like to thank the staff at the Shuswap Lodge and Dr. Richard Currie, who all showed incredible care and kindness to Mae and her family.
Please join for a service in honour of Mae on Saturday October 26th at 1pm at Broadview Church with a tea to follow.
