Mara passed peacefully and with much grace on Sept 13 with her family by her side. Survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Tom of Salmon Arm, her son Jesson (Denise) of Toronto, her daughter Bronwen (Carl) of Montreal, her daughter Erin of Squamish, and her adoring grandson, Oscar.

Mara was born in 1954 in Trail, BC, where she was raised and where she was married to Tom in 1974. She studied Education at the University of Victoria and Simon Fraser prior to settling in Salmon Arm in 1976 and then later in Deep Creek, where she and Tom built their family home and developed a small farm. A passionate gardener and naturalist, a lover of horses and goats, Mara created a wonderful home and playground for her family and friends. Mara was a life-long activist, committed to many social justice and the environmental causes; she believed strongly in thinking globally while acting locally. A spiritualist and philosopher at heart, she was always studying and building community, forever fascinated by the human experience. She held strong faith and lived a life full of love, compassion and generosity. A true example of a life well-lived, she will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at the Salmon Arm First United Church on Monday, September 24th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
