Margaret Marie Black (nee Ring)

Margaret was born in Vancouver, B.C. to Robert and Margaret Ring. She was the eldest of six children. She spent her childhood on Vancouver Island, where she attended St. Ann’s Academy.

After graduating Margaret attended St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Victoria, B.C. graduating in 1957. Margaret loved her nursing school years and maintained her friendships with classmates through her life. Her career took her to California and northern Ontario where she met her husband, Ian Black. They were blessed with three children, Kenneth, Valerie and Christine.

They lived in various places until 1974 when Margaret settled in Salmon Arm where she lived the rest of her life near her family.

She worked at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, mainly in the maternity department, and many remember her kind and excellent nursing care. Margaret obtained her Bachelor of Nursing in 1990.

Margaret ‘s dedication to nursing led her to work through her 65th year before retiring.

Margaret enjoyed her trips with friends and spent one whole summer convincing anyone and everyone to come with her river rafting. She enjoyed reading and often had maps at hand to pinpoint locations of current events.

Throughout the years Margaret took on various causes ranging from knitting bandages for lepers to political campaigning and supporting Pro-Life. She was a long time supporter of the Catholic Women’s League and was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph’s.

Margaret will be dearly missed by her father, children, grandchildren, sisters, brother and many nieces and nephews.

A Rite of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salmon Arm on Wednesday, June 23rd at 11 a.m. with Father George LaGrange O.M.I. celebrant.
