June 14, 1926 - July 29, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Marianne Berls peacefully passed away in her sleep, with her eldest son Hans at her side, on July 29th, at the age of 95.
Born on June 14th, 1926 in Selchenbach, Germany, she was the third eldest of six children. In 1949, she immigrated to Canada, and later met her future husband, Hans Berls, also a German immigrant, in 1952. They were married in Regina, SK on December 6, 1953 and had three children together: Marion, Hans and Glen.
After living in Saskatchewan, Alberta and the United States, Marianne and her family settled in Sunnybrae, where she would live for the next 51 years. Marianne enjoyed her surroundings in Sunnybrae by spending many hours outdoors, tending to a vast assortment of plants and flowers in her garden and spending time with her neighbours and good friends.
In 2020, Marianne moved into Hillside Village, where she would enjoy lots of time socializing with her fellow residents.
Marianne was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Hans, in December 2015.
She is survived by her three children: Marion (Dave), Hans (Maureen) and Glen; her four grandchildren: Jesse (Angie) Lepine, Courtney Kaeser, Adam Berls and Brodi Owen-Berls. She is also survived by her brother Randy (Dee) Kuerzel, and two nieces and a nephew.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Marianne's doctors and all the staff at Hillside Village for the countless hours of work, care and compassion they put in to helping Marianne.
A private interment and service will be held at a later date.
