May 22, 1929 - December 29, 2020
The family of Marjorie Elaine Dodge announce her passing into God's presence on December 29, 2020. Marjorie was born to Grant and Margaret (Buckingham) Jones in South Saskatchewan, near Wood Mountain, in the village of what is now known as Glentworth.
Her birth certificate and driver's licence were both shown in surveyor terms, as their work had not yet been registered. She was very proud of this description! She also credited the excellent water of Glentworth as the reason that she was able to go through her 91 years with a full set of her own teeth!
In 1934 her family left Saskatchewan at the beginning of the Great Depression and moved to Creston, BC, and then on to Chilliwack in 1938. In 1941 the family moved to Vancouver, where after high school graduation, she took Pittman Office Procedure Course. This course proved to be helpful in her professional and personal life.
In 1955 Marjorie married Paul Donald Dodge in North Burnaby, BC. Don was employed by the Southern California Gas Company, so it was necessary for Marjorie and their two children to live in the Los Angeles area for many years.
During this time she visited Northern India for an extended period to be with her high school friend who had become a medical missionary Doctor. Another trip was to Hawaii, for a longer period of time, when her husband Don was in charge of having installed a sprinkler system for a new Golf Course.
In 1984, when living in Salmon Arm, and a member of the Blind Bay Writers' Group, she had a book published, "Seeing God's Hand in My Life", several of her short articles were accepted by Decision Magazine.
About this same time she was a guest on the "100 Huntley Street" program in Toronto. Marjorie committed her life to God in her teen years and was a woman of faith that had a big influence on many people's lives.
She was predeceased by their two children, Gail Branda Dodge and Daniel Brent Dodge, in Los Angeles. Marjorie and Don returned to Canada and retired in Vernon where Don passed away in 2010. She is survived by her only sibling, Joy Phillips, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews in BC, the Yukon, and Washington State.
A memorial family gathering will be arranged later this year, the covid virus permitting.
Marjorie's body was buried January 2021, alongside Don, in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC.
