In loving memory ~
Markreta Dyke (nee Merk) passed away in Salmon Arm on October 27, 2021. She spent many years living in various cities in BC., Germany and Alberta. Upon retiring in Salmon Arm, she helped construct a home on the lake in Seymour Arm where she spent most of her spring, summer and fall months for many years.
She was born on June 25, 1934 to Jacob and Eva Merk. She was the fifth of six children raised on a farm in Paddockwood, SK.
She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed, reading, cribbage, dancing, the opera, her garden, knitting and caring for her family and pets. She created clothing for her children for many years. Many family and friends have a quilt made by our Mom. She loved all wildlife and took special pleasure in birds. She volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army, the Shuswap SPCA and sang in a choir at retirement homes. She was most recently living at Andover Terrace where the staff and residents were a special part of her life.
Markreta was predeceased by her son Bruce. She leaves behind her husband Dave and her only surviving sibling, Alec Merk. She also leaves to mourn; her daughters Candace (Marv) and Cindy (Roger) and son Bill (Lisa), her grandchildren Sarah, Alex and Nick, and many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
She will be deeply missed by all that knew her for her warm smile, sense of humour and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Markreta's memory to the Shuswap Branch of the SPCA.
