Mary Jean Pollard was born on April 5th 1934 and passed away in Salmon Arm, BC on her birthday, April 5th 2010. Jeanne was born in Quesnel BC to George and Cecil Robinson. She was the oldest of three girls. She went to school in Quesnel and married Garth Graham, having three children, Terry, Dianne and Alana.

Jeanne was a pioneer in many ways, persevering through difficult and challenging times and always doing her best. Whether it was living in the bush “at camp” in a tiny and rough log cabin without any of the modern conveniences that we all seem to take for granted, surviving mostly on moose meat, or hauling out her old wringer washer to do the family laundry on the porch, Jeanne worked hard to care for her growing family. Her young children were always clean and well dressed. She was an important part of the community of Bouchie Lake, just outside of Quesnel, where, for many years, she taught swimming lessons. There is a generation of children who will be forever grateful, despite the memories of standing waist deep, shivering, on cold, windy days, the lake surface bright with white caps, Jeanne on the shore, smiling, offering instruction and encouragement.

Despite the many challenges and hardships that she endured, especially in her younger years, she always seemed to manage and her children grew and were launched and all left home, to start their own families and follow their own paths.

In the 1970’s Jeanne left Quesnel and eventually found happiness in Salmon Arm, marrying Stan Pollard and together creating their own little corner of history, building a log home filled with love, family gatherings, antiques and collectibles, surrounded in the yard by old farming and logging machinery and equipment.

Together with Stan, Jeanne became a loving and caring grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, who enjoyed happy times over many summers, at Gramma’s house in Salmon Arm. Her later years included travel to Mexico and driving with Stan throughout Canada and the USA in their motorhome.

Jeanne was involved with the Lions Club and fall fair. Jeanne’s passion at the fall fair was “Memory Lane”. She involved many of the senior citizens. She had her husband Stan and grandson Jordon build the street. It added a lot to the fair and has been enjoyed by many.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Fischer’s Funeral Services with Pastor Norvel Bremnes officiating. Memorial donations in Jeanne’s name may be made to the Easter Seal House, 3981 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 2M7 or to a charity of your choice.
