Mrs. Matilda Irene (Tilly) Nightingale passed away in Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, on March 12, 2009 at the age of 98 years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Saturday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. with Jack Bowers the celebrant.  Tributes will be shared by family and friends.  Cremation with interment to follow later in the I.O.O.F. Section of Mt. Ida Cemetery.  A reception, provided by her friends in the Rebekah Lodge, will follow in the Mountainside Room at Bowers.

Born in Russell, Kansas, USA on December 15, 1910, Tilly lived a full and active life, having first come to Salmon Arm on August 30, 1960 to work in the kitchen in Shuswap Lake General Hospital. In 1969, she moved to Chilliwack, back to Salmon Arm for a few years, then to Prince George, returning to Salmon Arm in 1994. She quickly settled in at Parkview Place, later moving to Shuswap Lodge Retirement Residence, and then Bastion Place. She is well remembered for her independence, passion for life and care for others.

Tilly is the proud mother of Sandra (Louis) Tiernan of Salmon Arm, and Louise (Jack) Potskin of Prince George; seven grandchildren, Machelle, Nicole (Doug), Paul, Diane (Tyler), Genevieve (Doug), Ron, Todd; nine great grandchildren, Morgan, Garrett, Moriah, John, Richard, Chris, Kyle, Ryan, Dameon; and three great great grandchildren, Jedaen, Ariana and Chance.
