In loving memory of Mattie Florence Haskell (nee Taylor) ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mattie Haskell on August 22, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, Al Haskell, and her mother, Mae Hayes.
She leaves behind her daughter, Shaun Penfold, grandsons Michael Penfold (Victoria), and Joel Penfold (Theresa), great grandchildren, Jade, Melina, Rick, and Alex, her brother Dennis Taylor (Jane), nephew Darrell Taylor (Janice), great nieces and a great nephew.
Mattie was born in Maidstone, Saskatchewan, and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 1993, she and Al retired to Salmon Arm, B.C. As a young woman, Mattie worked with the Calgary chapter of the NAACP to bring about much needed changes.
In Salmon Arm, she was part of the Women's Christian group, was a TOPS member for many years, and volunteered at the Mental Health Thrift Shop. Mattie believed in helping others and it showed in all she did.
We wish to thank Dr. Keith Hepburn for the years he looked after Mattie's health, and the nursing staff at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their compassionate care in her last days.
Per Mattie's request, there will not be a memorial service. Anyone wishing to can make a contribution to the charity of their choice.
