Arlen Meryl Barker passed away in Emergency at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, on the evening of April 30, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
A graveside service will take place in the family plot at Blind Bay Cemetery, 2186 Blind Bay Road, on Sunday afternoon, May 16th at 1 pm with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant. Friends are welcome (subject to social distance, casual setting, bring lawn chair if you wish).
Born in Turner Valley, Alberta on August 17, 1939, Meryl moved to Banff, Alberta to be a lifeguard and Manager at Banff Hot Springs, with his wife, Lorraine Webster working as a Registered Nurse.
He settled in Blind Bay in 1975 to enjoy the beauty of the Shuswap. He retired from a long career with BC Telephone and Telus as lineman and cable splicer, gaining great respect from fellow workers.
Meryl is well remembered for his love of fishing, especially his many trips with his brothers.
Predeceased by his mother Alma in 2001 and his father Ray in 2007.
Meryl leaves his children, Arlyn (Laurel) Barker of Winfield, Cheryl Barker of Sorrento and Kari (Kevin) Ralph of Blind Bay; 2 grandchildren, Jessie and Jason; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Darrell of Seattle and Cyril of Leduc.
