It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. Michelle lost her courageous battle with cancer on February 7th, 2009 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Lacombe Hospital.
Michelle was born on April 17, 1953 in the community of Vernon BC to proud parents Fred and Flo Van Essen. She was educated in both Prince George and Smithers BC. Her early career found her working at various banks and credit agencies. In 1982 Michelle married her sweetheart Jim and a year later their daughter Tiffany was born. Beginning in 1991 Michelle began volunteering as a parent aid at the College Heights Christian School. It wasn’t long before her ability with numbers shone through and she started working as the bookkeeper/accountant there. While Michelle was a natural with numbers her true passion was her church, her family, the College Heights Christian School and the many children that she touched there each day.
Michelle was predeceased by her father Frederick Van Essen in 2007 which was a huge loss for her. She is survived by her loving family: husband Jim of Lacombe, AB; daughter Tiffany Reeves (Ryan) of Edmonton, AB; mother Florence Van Essen of Penticton, BC; three sisters Angelique Powell (Dave) of Salmon Arm, BC; Lisa Sanders (Stan) of Smithers, BC; Robyn Wettstein (Les) of Abbotsford, BC; numerous nieces and nephews and her many dear friends.
A Celebration of Michelle’s life will be held Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 3 pm at the College Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6915 Maple Drive Lacombe AB.
