Petronella Wilhelmina "NEL" Peach passed away in Emergency at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Monday evening, May 17, 2021 at the age of 80 years.
Born in Haarlem, The Netherlands on July 25, 1940. Nel emigrated to Toronto in 1963, worked in the Food Service Management for over 25 years, and then Retail for 13 years.
Diagnosed in January 1983, misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the age of 42 started a lifetime of learning, sharing, and teaching what type 1 entails and proper diet and exercise can do to increase one's life activities.
In 1985 she married her soulmate and friend Gordon Peach and quickly got him involved with her passion of fund raising for the Canadian Diabetes Association. She started Team Diabetes for fundraising with such races and events as a full marathon, ½ marathons, 10 and 8 km running, walking events.
Nel received the honor of National Volunteer of the Year in 2008, carried the Olympic Torch in Salmon Arm on January 27, 2010, this with traveling and taking part in fundraising events around the world.
All this with fighting breast Cancer and taking time to be a life member and supporter of the SPCA. In her words, she has happy memories to go with her passion for fundraising. The Shuswap was blessed to have Nel and Gordon arriving with such energy and enthusiasm of making a difference.
She leaves her loving and dedicated husband, Gordon and his two children, Douglas James Peach, Robynn Leigh MacPherson, 3 grandchildren, Kyle, Terynn and Lauren.
