Mrs. Leonora “Nora” Rogers a long time resident of Hinton, Alberta passed away on October 1, 2016 at the age of 91 years.

Nora was born in Nordegg, Alberta the third of eight children to Frank and Susie Vecchio.

She completed all of her education in Nordegg and upon completing grade twelve, she attended the “War Emergency Teacher Training School” in 1943 in Calgary, and her teaching career began. She taught in many schools all of which were in Alberta. The first was a country school in Hespero, then in Nordegg, Manning and Slave Lake. Nora retired from teaching in Hinton where she taught for a period of 26 years of her 36 year career.

In 1951, Nora married A.C. (Buck) Rogers and to this union one daughter was born. Following their retirement in Hinton, the couple moved to Sicamous, BC and then settled in Salmon Arm, BC where they made many friends and lived for many years.

Nora was a volunteer for many years with the Canadian Diabetes Association and was also a member of the Salmon Arm Royal Purple and has been a member of the Royal Purple for 48 years. Nora leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sue (Ren) Werbicki of Hinton, grandsons Craig (Jody) of Calgary and Geoff (Rachel) also of Calgary. Great-grandchildren Chase, Ashley, Rose, Nora, Clive, Olive and Alva as well as one sister Cathy (Frank) of Comox, BC, brother-in-law John of Airdrie, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Nora was predeceased by her parents Frank and Susie, her husband A.C. (Buck), brothers Ralph, John, Fred and Joe and by her sisters Rosa and Ginny.

A memorial service will be held at the Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church in Hinton, Alberta on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1:00 P.M.
