In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert Bruce Motherwell on February 16, 2023. Born in Nakusp, BC on April 3, 1932, Bruce spent his working life in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he was stationed all over Canada and Germany giving his family the wonderful experience of travel and living overseas.
Following his retirement from the RCAF, Bruce owned and operated a specialist aircraft welding and machine shop in Calgary.
In 1996 he moved back to the Okanagan and realised his dream of living back on the farm.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Bruce and being a curious man, he devoted time to constantly learning new skills and activities. He loved being a gentleman farmer tending to his sheep and even named them all.
As a keen outdoorsman he enjoyed fishing, biking, golfing, music and was an avid skier. He track set at Larch Hills and marshalled at the Salmon Arm Golf Course for many years and was known for his kind and sociable nature.
Bruce also spent several summers travelling central and western Canada donating his time fund raising for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation with the Big Bike Ride. Bruce will always be remembered for the smile and a warm welcome he had for everyone, he loved people and was loved in return.
Bruce led a full life filled with physical and social activities, travel, meeting people and simply making the most of retirement, something his children and those around him appreciate and learned from.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Erika, his sons Robert (Sue) and Kelly (Diane), his daughter Terri (Hugh), 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and other extended family in Alberta and BC.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their care and compassion.
A private family gathering to honor Bruce will be held during the summer. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation at www.shuswaphospitsalfoundation.org.
