May 17, 1939 - May 19, 2021
Rudolf Burri was born May 17, 1939 in Switzerland. He lost both parents as a child and was raised by his siblings on their family farm just out of Lucerne.
As a young man, Rudy followed some siblings to Canada in search of a new life. He settled in Smithers, BC where he met his love, Leona. They married in 1967 and had two children.
He worked many jobs, mostly in the logging and mining industry, to support his family. Rudy was considered a very talented heavy equipment operator.
They were happily married for 31 years before he lost his beloved to cancer in 1998. Rudy then moved to Salmon Arm, the place they had always planned to retire. Rudy never stopped missing his wife.
Rudy was a family man with integrity and strength who loved his family with all his heart. He never forgot to call on special occasions and always said he loved you. His last call was to his only grandson to wish him a happy birthday. He was so proud of him.
Rudy had a deep passion for animals and those who could not defend themselves. He will always be remembered for his laughter which was loud, spontaneous and full of emotion. Rudy never lacked for a joke.
Dad was a self-professed "teddy bear" who seemed to have the strength of a dozen lions throughout his many illnesses. He never wanted to give up but on May 19th, 2021, even though his will was strong and wanted to keep going, his big heart finally had enough.
Left behind are his children, Colleen (Brett) and Len (Ling) and his grandson, Hudson, his two brothers, Jost and Franz and his many nieces and nephews that he had such a close bond. He also leaves behind his "family" at Lander's Lodge to whom he was so grateful. Rest well. We will always miss you.
