STANLEY WESTON CROSS (STAN)

April 8, 1926 - September 29, 2008

Died at Broadmead Lodge in Victoria, with his daughter Leah Nichol, and his wife Betty by his side. His stepchildren Stan, Drew, Ian, Pam and Marcia Weir will miss him greatly.  He is survived by his sisters June Molliet and Jacquie Ainscough, his brother George Cross, and his brother-in-law Don Hunter. He is pre-deceased by his sister Margaret Hunter.  Stan grew up in Vancouver, but after graduating from UBC he moved to the North Okanagan where he established a dairy farm in an area between Armstrong and Enderby known as Deep Creek. The dairy industry was in its infancy when he bought in 1958, but Stan loved the cows and persevered through the challenges.  He felt that one of his greatest achievements was being instrumental in the creation of the Kamloops Okanagan Dairymen’s Association (KODA).  He was also chairman of the dairy committee for the BC Federation of Agriculture as well as a member and chair of the BC Dairy Foundation.  He loved music especially jazz and classical, and in retirement he enjoyed woodcarving.

A celebration of Stan’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Municipal Golf Course at 1400 Derby Road, in Victoria, BC.  In lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
