We regretfully announce the passing of Stanley John Bonthuis, 83, of Salmon Arm, BC on May 6th. Stan was surrounded by family and passed away peacefully.
Stan was born in Holland and moved to South America as a child. He immigrated to Ontario, Canada with his family and then made his way to his permanent home of British Columbia as a young adult.
He worked in a plywood mill and then at Erco before he finally ended up at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm. He was well liked and respected by his co-workers and worked there until his retirement in 1995.
Stan took to retirement immediately and enjoyed his time puttering around the house looking for things to repair. He was creative in problem solving and maintained his treasures meticulously. He enjoyed gardening and his fruit trees.
He was a proud man who took his responsibilities seriously and was a skillful negotiator. He was well known for his Mr. Fit-It qualities by friends and neighbours and as the person you could always count on to lend a helping hand.
Stan was happiest at home with his loving wife of 57 years or playing cards with his family.
Stan was predeceased by his parents, Meinte and Maria. He is survived by his loving wife, June, his two daughters Sonya (Jeff) and Shelley (Dave) and two grandchildren Brandon and Jason. He is also survived by his four siblings, Anna, Henk, John and Micky.
Stan will be forever loved and remembered. No service will take place, as he requested, but we do appreciate your love and support at this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers donations made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation in memory of Stanley would be greatly appreciated.
