Dan died at home in Salmon Arm, BC on December 26, 2016 at the age of 78 after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. He is survived by his wife Elizebeth (Betty), son Lorne Unterschultz of Salmon Arm, daughter Carolyn (Ken) Dickson of Vernon, son Russell Unterschultz of Swansea Point, grandsons James and Charles Dickson, his sisters Mae Cox of Salmon Arm, Rae Gibson of Salmon Arm and Barbara (Wayne) Brown of 100-Mile House and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Paul and Helen Unterschultz, sister Elsie and brothers Roy and Bill.

Dan was born in Fairview, Alberta and moved to Salmon Arm with his parents and siblings in 1946. Here is where he met and married Betty Kavalinas on June 6th, 1964. Dan barbered for 47 years in his shop on Lakeshore Drive.

He enjoyed playing crib, was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He loved to curl, snowmobile and later in his life enjoyed walks with family along the Shuswap Lake Bird Sanctuary Trail. Dan delighted in his grandchildren and loved them dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 7th, 2017, 1:00 pm at Bowers Funeral Home, 440 – 10 St SW, Salmon Arm, BC. Reception to follow at the Mountainside Complex across from Bowers.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Salmon Arm Salvation Army Food Bank.
