In loving memory ~
1953 - 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie Teresa White on November 15, 2024, at the age of 71. Valerie, beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend, was a beacon of kindness and selflessness. She dedicated her life to others, always putting their needs above her own, and leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love and compassion.
Valerie's spirit touched the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 53 years, Dan White, and her four children: Christina Hadath (Jason) of Comox, BC; Jaimie White of Ethelbert, Manitoba; Jeff White (Bethany) of Victoria, BC; and Andy White (Vanessa) of Victoria, BC. Valerie was also a cherished grandmother to her seventeen grandchildren: Ari James (Maia), Jade Rody, Tanner Smith, Jaxon Hadath, Alexa Hadath, Marinn Smith, Oscar White, Angela Hadath, Marlee Hadath, Noah Hadath, Crystal Kirby, Robin Rody, Winter Rody, Farmer Rody, Karen Rody, Thomas Rody, and Jordan Rody.
She survived by her mother, Elenora Lahoda of Calgary, AB; her sisters, Marjorie Olafson and Leandra Figg (Howard) of Calgary, AB; her younger brother, Duane Lahoda (Joanne) of Tobin Lake, SK; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is predeceased by her father Stanley Lahoda and sister Charlene Walters.
Born in Calgary on May 13, 1953, Valerie was the second of five children born to Stanley and Elenora Lahoda. She met the love of her life, Dan White, in March of 1969 during a church outing for students. Valerie immediately fell in love with him, and Dan proposed in the spring of 1971 with the blessing of her family. The two married on August 28, 1971, in Calgary, Alberta, and soon after moved to Revelstoke, BC, then to Salmon Arm, BC, where they created their forever home and raised their children.
Valerie was passionate about teaching and enriching the lives of others. For many years, she ran Paint and Play, volunteered in local schools, worked at Ladybug Preschool, and spent her final work years as a public health clerk at the Salmon Arm Health Unit. Her love for learning never wavered; in fact, just prior to her passing, Valerie was reading up on how to fix refrigerators, a testament to her curious, hands-on nature.
Valerie's legacy is one of love, grace, and determination. Her boundless generosity and nurturing heart have left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. While she will be missed beyond measure, Valerie's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
A celebration of Valerie's life will be held at a later date. Valerie, Mom, Grandma, Sister Daughter, you will never be forgotten, and your love will continue to inspire all of us.
