December 27, 1925 - August 24, 2018
Walter Owen Whitney passed away at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Walter was born in Waterhole, Alberta and resided in the Peace River Country, until his mid-twenties. Walter married June Davidson December 30, 1949. After living a number of years in various places in Alberta and British Columbia, settling in Calgary for 11 years in 1967 they moved to the Salmon Arm area and settled on a small acreage on Hwy 97B where Walter was employed by the district of Salmon Arm for 30 years as an Equipment Operator. After retirement Walter moved to Macintosh Grove.

Walter enjoyed a full life with his family and friends travelling to many places and once he retired he was always on the road. He enjoyed his trips, across Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Fiji. Along with countless fishing and camping trips. After the passing of June, he continued his quest for travel with Vivian Moore. Travelling again to Australia and many trips to the states. If Walter was not travelling or fishing he was dancing. His love for dancing took him to many places where he made countless friends on and off the dance floor.

His wife, June of 49 years and brothers Glen and Gordon Whitney, predeceases Walter. He is survived by his son; Jack, wife Louise, their children, Chad (Karen) Whitney, Kary (Geoff) Pittendriegh, Karen (Jason) Kusisto. Daughter Marilyn Whitney, her daughter Heather Collins. Walter had 4 grand children and 8 great grandchildren, Keegan, Jannika Pittendriegh; Todd, Tyson, Ayla Whitney and Raylie, Emily and Brooklyn Kusisto.

The family is forever grateful to Dr. Levins and Dr. Weiker, the staff at the Shuswap Lodge and the wonderful nursing care received at the Shuswap Hospital. The family cannot express their appreciation of your gentle and thoughtful care making his departure less painful for him and his family. We thank you with all our hearts.

In remembrance of Walter, as he requested no formal service, the family will have a "Celebration of Life Tea Reception" to be held at:
